Great Sally! I am so proud of you! : )
They'll get used to you. I'm sure that they are glad the workers are gone.
I did get a new camera, and I expect to be scolded when I get home. Probably won't have any good photos to post til Monday. Did see one hummer here, but it was a hummer moth? Huge it was.
Got another Nikon CoolPix only this one is a P90. Takes up to 15 photos per second. I am hoping to be able to get some good photos of feathers/wings. It's a nice camera, and I can easily hold it. Some of the others were nice too, but I got tired after just a few minutes of holding them. This one comes with a neck strap, and DH bought the 4 year you drop it and bust it, and we'll replace it extended warranty. He knows me well. I am tired, but miss you all.
I"ll show you, how nice the new camera works when I get home. Still fingering some things out, but SIL has been helpful.
Life is good.

YAAAAAAY! WAHOO, SW! It'll be good to have you back, girl!
Linda
Big problem was that one of the workers was me!! I figured that's why I get scolded. LOL
SW, congrats on the new camera.
I wanted to pass on a tip for those of you that have your feeders hanging out in the hot sun. I have two feeders that get very warm during our 100's days and my aunt just sent me a Birds and Blloms book that may have given me some help with this suggestion.
To keep the sugar water cooler, take a "white" plastic bottle, cut out the bottom of it and hang your feeder through it. I just started doing this last night and so far it seems to work. Kinda like an insulated glass or cup so I'm hoping this works. My larger Orioles didn't seem afraid of it at all and as long as the plastic bottle doesn't go down too far, they can still get the juice too.
I think my orioles are starting to leave. :-(
I sure am ready for mine to start leaving too Kaper. They're cute but I have so many hummers that I have to keep making sugar water twice a day and that equals 5-6 quarts of sugar water.
It's 98 outside and I filled this feeder 4 hours ago-it is cooler so I'm glad to have the bottle cover.
Beautiful photo!
Hey, I'm happy to get just one at the feeder! I have to go take some photos, if I can figure out how to use the new camera!

So I'm going to go have some fun playing with my new camera. Will share the results in a bit.
24, you overachiever! Seriously, thanks for sharing your hummers with us. They look so different from ours. It's nice to see them.
duc, does the sugar water ferment in the sunshine? Will have to save a couple of oj containers.
Note: the ant guard seems to be working. I was very surprised. No more ant invasions of the feeder.
More soon!

Missed your photos, girl!!! Can't wait to see stuff from your new camera....
Wonderful photo 24! I don't very often have two together at my feeders, they don't share well at all. LOL
Miss the adventures SW, anxious for them to come back.
Yeah!! Love the little one going after the bugs!
Aaahh, SW? You're ALREADY getting better pics with more detail out'a that new camera, girl! What fun your pics are going to be with all that extra detail.
Enjoy,
Linda
106 today here. Yes, in Oregon!! The hummers weren't very active today. I tried not to be.
SW....great pics!!
Holy cow, Sis! Hope it cools off SOON!
Great job SW!! That new camera is working out well for you.
I think we've swapped weather, Sally. It's 61 and cloudy here this morning. I'm loving it! Gotta go put worm compost on my 'maters.
It's been this way the last 4 days, they say it will start cooling off tomorrow, all the way down to 95. Woopeee! Should be back to normal 80's when you get here Sis. 61? It never got that cool all night.
Our phones went out yesterday and when I called they said 2 or 3 days. No,no,no. I asked to speak with a surpervisor, told him 99 homes in a senior community with no way to call for help in the middle of record breaking temps. They got it fixed last night. LOL We check our shut ins when it's like this, much easier to do over the phone.
You all are my kind of people. Not only watching out for yourselves, but for others. Hang in there! It is slightly cooler here today. Of course I finally figured out how to fix the mister, had to borrow a kid for muscle power, but I got 'er fixed!
: D!
Yesterday I tried using the sports setting. It works, but only because I took so darned many photos! I erased about 4 duplicates of every photo I took. Half of the time I couldn't get it focused fast enough. Taking my tripod out later.
Some of the photos in the first series I'm sending out, were kind of like watching a slo mo movie. Too time consuming, between shots, and editing gave me a headache. Ouch!
Can see why it would be useful, but not for hummers and birds.
But even once in a while you get a decent photo. BTW, I took over 500 photos somehow yesterday. Am not using that setting again unless I photographing a really cute surfer! LOL!
First photo in a series of six. Flying in for a landing at the feeder!
