Grasshoppers need identification - 2-3

Here is #1. This is about an inch long.

Unless you are very lucky, I fear that you are unlikely to get a specific identification of these short-horned grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae) on this forum. Recent references on these insects in India appear scarce; you might try locating a copy of the Outline of distribution with an index catalogue of Indian grasshoppers (Orthoptera : Acridoidea) by H.K. Bhowmik (see http://tinyurl.com/qqaeuk) or another book by him on the Grasshopper Fauna of West Bengal, India - see http://tinyurl.com/py5hht - I realize that West Bengal is a very great distance from your area, but it at least might give you a starting point.

Thanks for the clue suunto. Yes it is a fair distance from Mysore. If Bangalore or Hyderabad is found in clues it could be nearer to the exactness. Will check the links in due course.
