This is a larva of a sphinx moth (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae). There are several species having a very similar color pattern; one possibility is a plebeian sphinx, Paratrea plebeja (see http://tinyurl.com/n62dsm for an example). Also known as the trumpet vine sphinx, its host plants reportedly include trumpet creeper, yellow trumpetbush, passionflower, and lilac.
