CLOSED: Fly on squash

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I got a glimpse and quick picture of this guy on my squash plant, before I ran for the floating cover to keep off vine borers. But now after cropping the pic I am sure this is a fly, and vine borers are in the moth family. So...?

This is a 'good guy' (or gal, as the case may be); it is Trichopoda pennipes, a fly in the family Tachinidae that parasitizes squash bugs. I often see them among our squash plants. See http://tinyurl.com/lfr726 for images and more information.
