{GASP} It's 106 degrees today in Fresno . . .

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

and only 80-83 degrees at my cousins' from one end of Florida to the other!!! How is that possible?!?!?

And as if that's not bad enough, my air conditioning isn't working properly; my AC man is scheduled to come out "sometime" this week. My poor doggies . . . .

Oh, and photo of my latest canine adoption.

Sorry to hear about your AC--that's the worst! It was 105 or so here yesterday and I can't imagine how I could stand it without the AC! LOL I don't know if our weather is on its way toward you or not, but it only got up to about 96 here today so maybe you'll cool off a little bit tomorrow.

I love your new doggie--very cute!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

It's been miserably hot here in Sacramento too. It's not even July and my Bloodgood Japanese maple looks like it's been sitting in a kiln. :(

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

Yeah, GardenSox, I hear ya. I have an entire front yard full of new plantings since April. They are suffering. And, foolish newbie that I am, I planted a 15 gallon Crepe Myrtle Sunday when it was only 89 degrees, LOL. Of course, it got up to 107 yesterday. Can't figure out if it's suffering because it's hot or because I overwatered it. But you ought'a see it today. {{Gasp}} It looks like a wilted flower in a vase. Thank goodness it is guaranteed for 90 days, huh? It has a lovely shape to it, a multi-trunk shrub / tree I ordered several weeks ago.

Hey, ecrane, you send me that cool air, girl! I could sure use it.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

That's funny. I planted a new Crepe Myrtle a few weeks ago too. When I first planted mine it looked pretty wilted as well, but I figured that it might have been a little annoyed by the transport from the nursery to my house. I drove extra slowly (even pulled over so people could pass me) but I still think the wind whipped those branches around. I'm pleased to say that after a couple weeks in the ground it is looking much better -- even in this heat.

Which cultivar did you buy? I bought the Natchez - I love the white blooms.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Okay, I'll quit complaining about only reaching like 100 degrees on Sat., 98 yesterday and 93 today. Still too hot. I transplanted some tomatoes on Sat. Some just flat disappeared? One had it's top chewed off. Looking for snails to feed the chickens. LOL!
The rest are droopy, but are probably going to make it.
Grateful too for our afternoon ocean breezes. It makes it feel cooler.
Hope things are better today.
The weather teased us yesterday. Thought we might get a t.storm. No such luck. Just a tease.
See photo.

Don't send any of your hot weather to me, we even heard about some showers which of course didn't happen. Very warm here, but nothing in the high 90's. Not looking forward to hotter weather. Tomato plants looking good except for the one in the upside down container. It has tomatoes but plant always looks wilted.

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

WHEW! Down to 101 today and it feels like, well, cool! I know, hard to believe. The 5+ degrees difference is amazing. Even in the house without AC, the house is tolerable (thank-you God for the Fruitless Mulberries on the west side of the house). Whew.

SW, that's what our skies looked like this a.m., too! There actually has been some rain in the Sierra Nevada's heading toward Lake Tahoe. Ack, you can complain all you want. Hot is "hot," no matter how low "hot" is. LOL

Nah, Samigal, won't send it your way. Just gonna kick it's b**t out of the nearby universe and bless us all with gorgeous temps next week . . . promise!

Oh, YES, GS, that's the one I got. It is a lovely specimen, when it's not all wilty like below {weeping}. The moment I planted it I could see the screen effect. it's actually a "bush," according to the band. But it apparently can get up to 20 feet {gasp}. They told me that it's simple to keep it pruned down to a height I'd prefer it to stay, though. Isn't it pretty?

I can see what you mean about it making a great screen. I like it there. I have a feeling it is going to be very happy! : )
These clouds this afternoon, made me think of my pillow top mattress. LOL!

HEY, SW!

Did you see the doggie in the first window above? That's my trunk-bound buddy; the one you were smiling about.

Isn't she so cute?

Linda

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, Linda, I'm slow sometimes, but I noticed she was out of the trunk finally! So who finally helped you move her? I know she weighs a lot. Is she going to live on the patio? I'm excited she is finally out of the trunk!
Sorry, I've been sort of foggy brained this past week, but I'm getting my ducks in a row. : )
Hope you have a lovely Independence Day.

Hey, girl, you're not taking pics of Hummies today, so you have time. Yes, I've been watching the hummie thread and know you've killed off your camera. Aaah, your loss is my gain, kiddo.

Take it easy! You don't have the reserves to waste, er "overspend." Take it easy. You're too valuable to waste.

Hey Twincol, that Crepe Myrtle does not look so bad to me and believe me I have seen bad when it comes to heat or, even worse, heat and Santa Ana's. I see that fencing you have like we do, only ours is taller. Ours is to keep horses & goats, are you growing veggies in your front yard?

Lynda

Fresno, CA(Zone 9b)

{chuckling} No, Lynda, no goats or horses on the streets here, although we do have a neighborhood in North Fresno which is built around each of the residents having its own small private airplane which is parked in its own household airplane port." I doubt that a fence of any height would keep one of those driving down your street out of your front yard. LOL!

I'm working on the hardscape in a new front yard landscape design. WeeNel has encouraged me to consider small veggie plantings in the plan for softscape, as the design is an attempt to replicate, in an amateur fashion, an "urban British garden, such as my family had in their yard in England. There are some pics of that yard in Cirencester in the middle of the thread at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/899514/ . I've received considerable thoughtful and valuable encouragement from some of our British members.

The plan, BTW, is for that fence wire to be covered by Star Jasmine, something of an architectural interest. It's a plan in progress and will not be completed in a single season. I'm too old to do such intense physical work any longer. ^_^

And I've lived in Garden Grove in years past and know well what those Santa Anas are like. They can literally take your breath away.

Linda
