I had a great time attending the NALS Show in Springfield, MO this last weekend (Thursday thru this morning). The show was very well run and well attended. There were over 200 stems displayed and numerous artistic designs.
I thought Mainiac might like to know that the lily 'Kushi Maya' Calvin H. got from her won 2 major awards! The Earl N. Hornback Award (Lily showing greatest advancement in hybridization) and the Hod Hoepner Award.
I went with Wandasflowers and she did great! Entered 5 stems and got 4 Blues(1st) and 1 red(2nd)
I didn't do to badly either, entered 3 stems and received 2 Blues and 1 Red. One of my blues received the Jan De Graff Award!
Here is Kushi Maya with her 2 award placards.

Wow, that Kushi Maya - I don't think I have ever seen a "black" stigma before.
Have the Hall owners change that carpet. Yuck!
Way to go, Sue and Wanda!! You do us IRLS' members proud!! :) But you always do. :)
Great job!! I bet your brains are tired after looking and judging all those lilies.
Have to agree with Lefty ~ that carpet sure detracts from the lilies. Yikes.
Yes, I got email confirmation from Calvin at 1 AM on Saturday! :) I was very proud of him for getting the bulbs to bloom at the proper time! Not an easy feat!
Congrats to both of you...and beautiful lily!!!!!!
Thanks! Not too bad considering it was the first NALS show either of us had ever shown stems in, and all our stems got either Blues or reds!
Guess our attention was focused on the lilies, can't say I ever really noticed the carpet.
Congratulations Sue and Wanda. You made all of Iowa very proud!
Your buddy,
Iowaron
So, which stems did you show? What cultivar won the Jan De Graff Award?
Didn't notice the carpet?
Boy, you were in La La, I mean Lily, Land.
(But that's a good thing.)
I had a stem of Red Alert, Elodie, and Tiger Babies. Tiger Babies got the red and Elodie got the Jan De Graff Award.
Really, I can't say I noticed the carpet after being exposed to the lobby! I was too nervous about everything to notice little things like that carpet. It is kinda gawdy in the pictures. . . .
Wanda took First Lady, Tiger Babies, Peach Elf, and one I can't remember for Blues and Glossy Wings for a red.
We did some garden touring on Saturday, it was miserable hot! This pond was right beside a screened gazebo under a nice shade tree.
Congratulations Sue and Wanda! It sounds like you ladies had a good time.
