I would like to save seed from my many Pentas, but have no clue what the seeds look like, where to find them or how to save them. can anyone help me?
Pentas - Where To Find The Seed?
Hi,
I've saved seeds from a white flowered species of Pentas I got from Silverhill Seeds in South Africa--the plants simply set small capsules which dried and released tiny seeds. Presumably the more common hybrid Pentas should do the same. Look for swelling of the ovaries just under the spent flowers, and then wait until they turn brown. When several capsules are are brown and dry, remove the whole flower head and dry it over white paper, then shake it and see if the seed comes out. The seed will be quite tiny.
Good luck.
Thanks, I'll give it a try :)
I have one thing to add cue. The seedlings (at least for me) grow quite slowly. I started mine this year at the beginning of January and they're just now starting to bloom. The seed is microscopic and so were the seedlings for the first 4 months. They were the size of a pin head until about the middle of March and only about dime-sized then. If I grow them again this year I'll be starting them right after Thanksgiving.
