European internet question

You guys across the Atlantic...How do you get charged for your internet connection? Is it by the hour or a flat monthly rate? Just curious.

Depends who you are with ISP wise, personally I pay a monthly flat rate.

I too use a dial up connection. Up until about 3 minths ago that is all that was available in my area. Now they have cable access available. I pay $7.00 a month for unlimited access. To switch to cable would cost 75.00 in set up fees and 58.00 monthly for service. I will stick to dial-up for now!

Wow Zany...my cable modem is only $31 a month. It's great...I love it.

martyboy what isp do you use??

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

It's @home. It's an AT&T owned company I think. So basically, I pay about $30 for our cable service which we would have regardless of an internet connection...and then another $31 for the internet ocnnection. We get about 70 cable TV channels. I've downloaded files at 300k or slightly higher. It all depends on the site your downloading from.

Do you have to pay for the minute for your phone in europe when you use the internet, or do you have a flat rate per call now ? curious

Kitchener, ON(Zone 5A)

Work for the company. Get the best rates (free) and you alone are responsible for the service level you get. :)_

Lyndeborough, NH

Try Modem at $20 per mo. or DSL at $395 hook up and $195 per mo.

Rita

Some have flat rate and some have pay per minute access, its not very different to your systems in the USA.

Auburn, NY(Zone 5b)

We have cable connection. We waited until they had a free hookup special and pay $39.95 plus $34.00 for our TV cable (per month)But our phone is still busy all the time because of TEENAGERS!!

Baa
Thanks for replying, I was curious because years ago you had to pay each minute, even for local phone calls

Uptil last year i had to pay BT(British Telecom) so much per minute, but they have come out with a scheme called BTAnytime which is 14.99 English but its okay but there is a faster service which is about 48.00 pounds, so sticking to the anytime rate although during the week i only come on in the evening sometimes at weekends during the day if weather is so bad i cant work in the garden or go walking. Our houses are only 4 years old and they never put cable into our homes because that is even cheaper and includes some extra TV channels, which do not interest me but would be good for hubby. Sheila in NW England

LOL Rita we still pay for local phone calls per mintue as well as national and international calls, unless you are with the same company as Sheila, BT run a scheme which you pay for monthly and get free local calls on the evening and weekend. You have to sign up for it first before you receive it.

Saying that I can call the USA for only 5 pence per mintue at anytime of the day, and day of the week so I guess the pricing is swings and roundabouts.

Thanks again :)

Strange how we can call overseas cheaper than in the country we are in huh :)
Costs me 5 cents a min to call the uk to talk to my mum & dad and 7 cents a minute to call my daughter in Texas about 2000 miles away and 10cents for my hubby to call his dad about 60 miles away here in New Hampshire ...
