I have 2 very good (I thought) insect books and can't find this anywhere. They do bite, they seem to jump rather than fly (like a grasshopper). I googled and couldn't find anything remotely similar. Does anyone have any ideas?

It's a spittlebug, maybe the Two-lined Spittlebug, Prosapia bicincta. I didn't know they could bite?
