I found this unusual bug on my daylillies and ornamental grasses so far. Several at one time, but spaced out. They don't seem to do any damage that I've noticed. I thought, at first, it was a praying mantis, but the head and front appendages weren't right. Then I saw one hop and thought maybe a grasshopper of some sort, but still didn't fit. Other than hopping, they usually just move very slowly. Since I saw no damage I have not bothered them, but I'd still like to know what they are. Thank you.
CLOSED: Likes my daylillies and ornamental grass
This is a nymph of a long-horned grasshopper (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae); likely that of a bush katydid in the genus Scudderia - see http://tinyurl.com/maxxf7 for an example.
Thanks Suunto, I appreciate your help. I checked the link and it looks just like it. Guess this was solved.
Thanks again.
