Interesting Looking Flying Insect.

Rosemount, MN

This was found mating with another of its species. It has 3 Distinct Antennae as seen in the photo, and was seen digging into a nearby Maple tree and looked to be Laying Eggs. Stretched out it's about 6 1/2 inches in length.

Black Body, Yellow head. Female is smaller in contrast and does not have very long antennae.

This is a female ichneumon wasp in the genus Megarhyssa - see http://tinyurl.com/lweado for images and detailed information. They use their long ovipositors to bore into the tunnels of their prey, wood wasps in the family Siricidae.

You don't want to get rid of them! These are beneficial insects.
