I am going to harvest all of them as I started mine from a seed. I don't know how long to leave the bean on but I guess it is like all plants..........just wait until they start turning brown and ready to fall out?
June Flowers OT 2
I would assume so. Just watch them and I'm sure you'll know. You just don't want to leave them on there long enough so that they split and spill before you can get them.
hey gail;
whenever that corkscrew finally sets the seed, keep me mind, i think it;s so cool.kivit, your garden is to die for.
bonnie
Lotsalilys,Your daylily's are lovely.Did you grow them from seeds?
I would love to be able to grow daylilies of all colors..........Those are great looking!!
Bonnie, I am going to save lots of seed and will post when I get a lot of seed and give them away.......of the Corkscrew Vine.
Yes those are from crosses I made.
Whoa! I have been looking for the Stramanthe Tricolor. Would someone be willing to trade with me? Very nice pics by the way :) They look better than pics from a florist shop!
Connie
That makes me so jealous looking at your morning glories.......I am hoping that we get some rain by September so I can at least have a fall morning glory garden!!!
Don't you just love a homegrown tomato. I ate tomato sandwich with mayonnaise on sour dough bread for lunch. I love it!
Impressed that anyone can hybridize any kind of plant.........let alone a day lily.
I missed your request for a section of Tri color Stromanthes..........if you pay the postage I will cut a giant clump from the big one I have................aspen.
gail
Dmail me when you have time........
I thought I was the only one who ate tomato sandwiches LOL! Heck, I just eat tomatoes. What are you doing to grow them so big?
Gail, I just missed your post too. Hmmm.... D-mail on the way. That is awesome!
I'll post picutres of them in the morning(Tomatos). He really just waters....alot!!!
I'll want a few of your corkscrew vine seeds, please, Gail.
That's an awesome tomato, Melanie! We just grew tomatoes so we could make salsa, but I'm not watering them enough, so I don't think we'll have enough to fool with.
Here's my Hoya carnosa (it's Krimson Queen or Princess, but I'm too lazy to look up which) blooming. I just love the scent of this one and the flowers seem to last forever!
I will post when the seeds are ready on the cork screw vine, Rain........
My Krimson Queen has already bloomed and I think it is too hot now for any of them to bloom this summer.
Those are pretty too! Never thought to hang a pot from a pot, Lin. Good idea! Do your hangers attached to the pot ever break from too much weight? I bought a self-watering pot, put a lipstick plant in it and the hanger broke right off on me. I need to find time to make some macrame hangers.
Connie
LOL, I have pots hanging from pots, hanging from pots! I have had some of the plastic hangers break under heavy weight plants so I try to replace all the plastic hangers with wire ones I buy at Home Depot. Sometimes the plastic hanging baskets don't have holes to put the wire through so I have to drill holes.
Good idea # 2 :)
Lin,great pictures!! Maybe your blooms fade out a little from the strong sun in Florida?
Connie,be careful with self watering pots for lipstick plants, unless they are outside. They need to dry out a little, especially to bloom well.
Lynn
Lynn, my carnosa's are under a covered deck in total shade, no sun whatsoever. I made a mistake a few years back having them hanging out by the pool and the foliage got very sunburned. I thought I remembered the blooms being a prettier pink many years ago so I'm wondering if it has something to do with the age of the plants. I have a small carnosa that I have only had @ 2 years and it hasn't bloomed yet so I'm waiting, hoping the blooms will be a pretty pink.
Raingaizer, the majority of the variegation on Krimson Queen leaves has green centers with white edges, Princess is the opposite, cream centers with green edges. I also see other differences, both in leaf shape and growth habits - subtle, but obvious if they are right next to each other. Pretty flowers!
And you all have not eaten a tomato until you have had a JERSEY tomato - in between 2 pieces of toasted white sourdough with Miracle Whip and black pepper...mmmmm.....
This is a solid green carnosa, but not one that has reverted from a variegated. It's my oldest hoya. New growth, both vines and leaves, burgundy-ish rust colored. The interesting thing is that I have a few hoyas grown from this plant, one that is kept indoors in bright indirect light blooms a pale almost lavender pink - but the one in the picture goes outside in the summer, and when it gets alot of direct sun, it gets the dark pink flowers pictured. Sorry the pic is so fuzzy, but the color is obvious. I may have posted this picture here recently, if so, I apologise for being redundant....but I just loooove the color! I tried moving all my carnosas into full sun to see if they would be this dark pink, but it doesn't work. Only this one. One downside though is that the foliage gets kind of yellow in the full sun...but after summer is over, it greens up again. It is worth it to me.

Very pretty! I like that color!
I have a couple of KP's that have reverted and no longer have the variegation in the foliage. I also have the regular green carnosa and I hope the flowers are that pretty if it ever decides to bloom!
Oh my ... that is so pretty! Is the E. guatamalensis that curly leaf Epi? I remember someone posting a picture once (it might be Gail) and it was so cool looking with all the curly leaves! Is the bloom fragrant? I bet that bloom will be opened even fuller in another hour! Let us see it if it does!
I googled for E. guatamalensis and found these two listings in PF:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/130577/
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/130578/
I just love the curly foliage of that second one called E. guatamalense f. monstrosa!
Okay, Lynn. Maybe that is why my plant isn't as perky as it used to be. I thought I shocked it when the hanger broke off and just missed giving me a concussion. Looks like she may get another repotting.
phoebe: That Epi is so cute! I really love the curly foliage and the bloom is really nice! Is it strictly a night bloomer or does the flower stay open on that one during the day?
meag848: Wow! Look at those maters and green beans! Looks like you and your husband have a real nice garden there! I'd love to have enough space to have a nice veggie garden but we don't have an area that gets enough sun. Your morning glories are glorious!
I have had horrible luck with tomatoes the past few years ... something eating them and I don't like using chemicals. I really need to find some natural or organic bug killer for them. I want to try some of the upside down containers to hang tomato plants but keep forgetting to look for them. A friend said his brother got some at Home Depot so I need to check there.
Lin
Thank you, Meagan, for the morning glory pics. That is one of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen. Your hubby must spend lots of hours keeping it that healthy and growing.
Hey Lin, Make your own. Take a large hanging pot and drill a hole in the bottom of it. Some use a 5 gal plastic bucket. I want to make some next year with large hanging pots. I think it would be cool to grow the tomato upside down and plant some herbs on top. They say you can grow other veggies like peppers, etc. upside down also. My SIL has two and she has to water it everyday or the tomato plant wilts.
Just a thought.
Connie
