Piergrossi's property has sold and they (Tom and Andy) will be leaving for Hawaii soon. They're liquidating the nursery and having a sale on July 12th (2009). They're located at 2324 Lone Oak Lane, Vista

Piergrossi's Nursery liquidation sale
Thanks, Sherry - I'll try to make it! Glad their plans are finally coming together.
Yep....they're just a little bit happy to be able to move on....literally.....
Too bad it's not just a little bit closer to here, I would love to go!
For those interested, an availability can be viewed at tompiergrossi.com
Aloha, Andy
oooh, thanks, Andy....I'm interested.
Me too! Oh boy, lots of goodies.
July 12, is that a Sunday or Monday? Who cares, I got GPS. Lots of great plants, and I only peeked. Hmmm.
Glad that the plans for the move to HI, are working out for them, but hate to loose another nursery.
See if I can be there.
WIB!

SW, it's a Sunday and they're off Buena Creek in Vista. From your direction it would be 15 south to Deer Springs Rd exit, take a right at the exit signal and stay on Deer Springs to Buena Creek where you take a right again, stay on Buena Creek until you come to Lone Oak, where you take a left. These are simple directions, your GPS will get you there.
Gee, we could have a party, folks!
SW, if I were you, I'd go to Piergrossi's first and then if you have any money left, you definitely should stop at Buena Creek Gardens on your way back to I-15, that is, unless you want to go to the coast since you'd already be close. Buena Creek Gardens is wonderful to see and walk around even if you're not buying. Lots of good ideas and beautiful grounds, huge trees.
Maybe, I can do both, all three? I love the beach.
We'll be leaving the following Sat. to go to OK, to scatter Dad's ashes and will be gone like 9 days. Three days drive each way. OUCH! My Dr. will see me just before I go, and give a prescription for pain meds. I really hate 'em, but sometimes there is no other way. Besides, I don't ever plan on going back to OK. I do want to get lots of photos while I'm there.
I'll see what DH is up to, probably work, so I can make a day trip or bring a friend. Let me get through this weekend, and I'll start working on it.
More soon.

Yep, we're happiest anywhere on PCH....up the coast today and pizza at Stuft Pizza in Dana...love their pizza! Beautiful day at the coast today...and...if anyone loves 'Shooting Stars' hydrangeas like I do, Roger's has them.... in quart size. It took me a year to come across one again after being foolish enough to pass up the first and only one I'd ever seen a year ago. I'm usually not stupid or disciplined enough to pass up something I lkie that much. I did, however, resist buying more today. I think I'm on a 'white' kick. I'm really happy with my Sykes' Dwarf Oakleaf hydrangeas and Roger's also had white pentas in 4" size and the white and green all looked so pretty and fresh that I was ready to buy a lot of white stuff and come home and tear everything else out.
On the oakleaf, when the flowers age they turn a soft kind of peach to buff color (very feminine, sort of frilly, lacy looking to me) and the oakleafs get fall color too...what more could I ask? I've also recently planted 8 coleonema alba (white Breath of Heaven), so maybe I should have gotten a bunch of the white pentas. I was very disciplined today...I went to Plant Depot and Roger's and bought NOTHING...but then the Piergrossi's sale is coming up soon.......
I have the Shooting Stars Hydrangea planted inside the gh. It's very happy there. The first one I had didn't survive it's first winter outside. Is the Sykes' Dwarf Oakleaf hydrangea hardier?
I admire your will power, and I'm using mine. I haven't been back to the orchid nursery. It's really hard since it's on the road I use to get most any where. Sigh.
Sale is on the 12th, yup, just checked the top of the thread and there it is. : )

I'm not sure why your Shooting Star didn't make it, but they are hardy to zone 6 so I suspect it wasn't the cold that was the problem. Did you water it over the winter? I was lazy about watering one of my hydrangeas over the winter and it got off to a really slow start this spring--seems to have come around now when I started watering it more, but I think if I'd watered it much less over the winter it might have died.
The oakleaf hydrangeas are hardy, no problem. To correct my spelling, it looks though it is spelled Sikes (with an 'i', not a 'y'. The dwarf supposedly gets to only about 3' x 4'. I'll have to measure mine as it looks taller, but it's in a large clay pot. I think mine will all go into large, large pots as I think I read somewhere that rabbits will eat hydrangeas. This, of course, after falling in love with every hydrangea I see. Usually the first thing I check on anything I want is whether or not the bunnies will consider it salad, but did I check on hydrangeas? No, of course not.
I don't care...I'll buy humungous pots for them....lol....I resisted hydrangeas for years, though I thought longingly of them and finally just gave in.....
Got there too late for a few of my desires, but still came away with a bunch of new Salvias and a couple of natives at very good prices (stealing comes to mind!). Andy was too busy to waylay - but in case he checks in, I wanted to say good luck in Hawaii! Boy, was it hot! Poor little plants are soaking as I write.
I didn't go...had a sale here at our place yesterday and I knew if I went I'd spend more at Andy's than I made yesterday...lol...I did really want all of the vigna caracallas they had, though and though I already have the salvias they were offering today, I probably would have had to buy all of the salvias too....were there a lot of people there?
A good number. I think a lot had been there before me, though. I wanted some native Monardella, but they were gone. I forgot my list, too, so I just went down the tables grabbing things. Of course, I hope I can keep it all alive in this heat - they are very small. How did your sale go?
Sale went very well...we quit doing the Bonsall Market, they're just not getting enough traffic to make it worth the bother. I don't know if the Fallbrook market is going to start or not. Now I'm just doing an ad and flyers to the garden club...much easier. Did you notice if all of the vignas were gone? I kinda assumed that other grower friends would be there and buy all of this and that in full amounts. I have some steady customers who are also garden club, so although I hadn't advised them that we would no longer be there, they still found us from the flyer.
What about the Vista FM? It sure gets traffic! Although now you're probably just as happy to not do all that packing up. Didn't see any vigna, but then I wasn't looking for it. Where is your ad?
Hi,
Exhausted but checking in....geez was it hot. Mary Mcbride who does the Farmers Market in Vista has some Vigna 'Thomas Jefferson'....you can reach her at 724-1500. Thanks to everyone who bought plants....we made enough $$$$ to pay for the move. And thanks to everyone who has been sooo supportive of us over the years. I will check in when I get to Hawaii.
Aloha, Andy
Would love to have been there,Andy, but you know I would have spent every penny. I'm glad it went really well for you. I have vigna caracalla, but was drooling over all the ones you had. You know that one of anything is never enough......Are you packed? Still having a last sale on the 19th, or not going to bother with it?
K, yes the Vista market is great, but hard to get into and starts waayy to early in the a.m. for us. Plus, I'm going to have to cut back a lot on what I'm doing and so, I'll narrow my focus and have periodic sales here that are more specialized and nothing will reach the size of 5 gallons...period! I don't have to grow absolutely everything in the world just 'cause it's there....famous last words....
I stopped by my friend's house and she went to the sale yesterday...I have about 7 vitex that I'm trying to find the proper planting sites for here......and she brought home a variegated vitex! I know I would have to have bought those also...lol....
I always have to scurry off to the Plant Files and search for these plants you mention, Sherry. I'm so uneducated when it comes to plants!!
