Not sure if it is an insect or spider? I would like to know what it is. It has four mandiblesthat articulate vertically, and seem to be hinged at the back of the head so that the entire head slides back and forth when the jaws move. It has eight legs and two robust arms? that are double jointed. It was found in my basement. Tell me it isn't a queen termite. LOL
CLOSED: Western Colorado Desert Bug?
This is an arachnid in the family Solpugidae (sometimes spelled Solfugidae); commonly called sun spiders, camel spiders, wind spiders, etc. - see http://tinyurl.com/l2rs3l for an example. They are active hunters of other arthropods, overpowering their prey by sheer physical force, as they apparently lack venom. Large ones could give you a painful nip if you handled them carelessly, but they otherwise are harmless.
