That's okay, Kassy. No problem:). Tha banties will go out today or tonight. I think it will be okay, they're certainly old enough, and were all part of the same flock until two weeks ago or so. I'll be around to rescue, tho. One Silkie is very small.
Help, chicks won't go into coop at night
o.. wanted to let you know the 2 month old chicks went in the pen tonight but it wasn't due to the light which wasn't working due to the vapor light we have.
I needed to go somewhere tonight that I might not be home at dark to shut the coop up, didn't want the girls getting attacked again so I chose to put them to "bed" early tonight. I ended up home earlier than I thought so I let them back out for awhile to catch the evening bugs. At dark I went down fully expecting to be catching the 2 month olds to put them to bed. i was shocked to see half of them IN the coop already & the other half standing in front of the door waiting their turn to get inside. One by one they all went in. So we'll see if they do the same tomorrow night or not.
Yippee!! :)
Great news GK. Sounds like they are learning quickly. The light is still working for mine. I go down at dusk and turn the light on. Either they troop in right away, or I go back at dark and they are all roosting. When I turn out the light, they kind of coo at me like saying goodnight.
Eventually you probably won't even have to use a light. They just know where they should be at night to sleep and they go there.
We found out that with the different batches of chickes that we have had, our young ones have always been the last ones to go in at night.
Glad to hear they are being good girls greykyttyn :)
I finally got to put the chickens up at full dark due to being out late getting fireworks. All of them were very quietly roosting till i turned on the light to count them.. then the roo's work up & greeted the light like it was the sun!
LOL greykyttyn Glad they are learning :)
Our roos will somtimes crow during the night. Not sure why but they do.
Boyfriend was worried at first that the neightbors would get upset (he is in the country), but they got hunting dogs, so we hear them during the night, so they better not get upset...........LOL
I wondered why my roos crowed in the night, as well. For us, it was simple. Headlights. We were pretty far out, and cars were few and far between, especially after dark. Turned out that they roosters thought they were harbingers of dawn :)
Rooster crow on a full moon because of the light and they sometimes crow hearing another roo in the distance.
But that being said i have heard mine crow in the pitch black dark """"Whats up with that""""" LOL!!!!!
Where i babysit their roo crows at 1 am, full moon, no moon, doesn't matter.
My neighbor said she was out with her dog at 3am and heard my rooster crowing when he was here.Seems like every time I woke in the night I would hera him.
I did a search....check this site, the first part it rather funny. "Secret of the Rooster's Crow"
