Confusion with Four-banded Longhorn beetle...

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Hi Ken,

After I had entered Leptura quadrifasciata a couple of days ago in BF,

I noticed in my older maps an exact similar beetle called Strangalia quadrifasciata I had entered too last year under that name in BF.

Then I went to search on the web and there I found that both names are used for what I think is exactly the same beetle!!? So I thought maybe one of the names is outdated?

Thanks for noticing that. You are quite right, they are synonyms for the same beetle. It is a little hard to be sure which name is current, but it appears to be Leptura quadrifasciata. I have moved your recent images to the earlier entry (Strangalia quadrifasciata) and deleted the new entry and finally changed the name of the original entry to Strangalia quadrifasciata.
I have also added the two name to a list of synonyms that I am keeping against the day when Dave gives us the means to store synonyms in BugFiles,

You can now view all your images here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/5176/

Thanks Ken! :)
