Rock Wall Construction Part 2

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, I drove by your house at 7:38 last night to show DH that your place was for real. Not some photo shop deal. Looked good. We had the red sox game just starting and assumed you did to, so I didn't want to interrupt. Patti

Cool, Bill! What if it's hit from the side??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti you should have stopped - i really would like to meet your better half!! yes we were watching the sox and he could have had a premium brew and a quick walk through.

this little arch is very stable - ive leaned on it and it could be there to stay - although i think i will make it wider so there is a do over to happen tomorrow

thanks all for your compliments - my wife saw how to do this in a boston globe magazine article - hopefully i'll have enough blue stone left to do another on the patio wall where it would look better

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

McDonalds architecture in your future, Bill?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

do not even eat there!

I said today would be a do over for the arch - did not feel it belonged on the wall - just to big and out of scale.

so here is the second attempt - this literally took 15 minutes to put up - i think i looks better in this bed - my only concern is that the dirt here is soft because it is a new bed made from edging and expanding other beds so there is a lot of settling to do.

i also mentioned that i would build a quartz pyramid - well here it is

a couple of close ups of the stones used - these will get cleaner as the weather washes them and the sun goes to work

Very, very nice, Bill! I love that arch! The pyramid and the garden shed are nice too! You just keep outdoing yourself!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are amazing

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Nice arch. DH is working on finishing the front steps. Needs more concrete and mortar for the bricks.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very cool, Bill! (But you do need professional help. ^_^)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no i think i am doing ok on my own:)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, you two!!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wow! That's wild! I love both arches and the quartz pyramid. Very, very cool. Victor, perhaps this is what keeps Bill sane? Besides, have you looked at your garden lately? I'd say you've got an obsession of your own going on there. I'm sure it's cheaper than therapy!

Who says that gardeners are sane?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks for sticking up for me ladies:)

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

My front porch. DH replaced some of the brick that had fallen off while taking off the steps. These are precast steps(wider and better). He has to finish off the front and add railing. Look irisMA new steps! Better for you when you visit.

j2 those look good!
A friend recommended those to me if the price of granite was too expensive for my front steps - there are about 20 steps - will keep them in mind when the time comes.

new rock - check out the wear on this stone!

last one from the left with the little coop grass - i think an interesting rock or boulder is a must for a garden bed - and this one fits the bill (no pun intended) :)

Many of you think i have rocks in my head - not true! - i have rocks in my yard! - and i want more, many more!

rock on!

Agree, a really different shape. Does it look black in some pictures because it is wet? Certainly can claim it as an erratic.

Yes J-2 I approve of the steps even without facing.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i did hose it off to get rid of some mud - however it is dark grey to black normally.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

DH is going to put a wood railing up. On the porch and stairs.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nice steps j2. As I said on the other thread Bill, cool rock!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Jen.

Railing is done! DH finished painting today. Stair railing angle is funky because the stair got in the way of where it really should go.

Stair veiw. Steps are wider than the old ones. IrisMA you have a railing to use when visiting!

Looks great & I see Salem in the window, but he looks like he is sleeping rather than checking it out. But big improvement even though it took a great many years.

Very nice, Lucy!!

Bill - I love that great stone!! It has such interesting contours! I agree that you just have to have a good stone/rock in any garden where you have some available.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I hadn't noticed that he was in the window. It looks like he's checking something out on the ground.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

good for you guys Jumper!!
