Frogs and toads, the wee ones

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

For those who do not have little ones around their homes, I thought I
would share some of the tinier visitors we have at this time. Unfortunately,
one cannot see the image well unless you view the larger version.

I've shared this tiny little Spring Peeper on another thread, but
thought he was worthy of a spot here with the other wee ones.

Bless the little wee ones! They are so darn cute!

Wuvie, They are so cute. I have tad poles too. None of them have made it to frog status yet.
I thought I might add a few pics of my own.
Here is my tiny turtle. It came home with my GS last weekend. We put it in the box pond but I don't know how long we will keep it. Probably till the end of summer and then maybe it will go to GS house to over winter.

Here are a couple of wee ones, That is my GD Lily checking out one of the tree frogs.

Here is a close up of that frog, If you are wondering about the color. I guess they must change color depending on what they have been sitting on. We have quite a few of them in our yard and even though there are two water features some of them like to hang out in the pool. This one had been sitting on the white pool ledge before we moved him to the pond. Last year we had one that was lime green as it liked to hang out on one of the Grandchildren's lime green boat. There was a very grey one that had been sitting on the watering can fountain last week. LOL

Ah here are the culprits, These two GS JR and his Unc Josh (my son) are responsible for the small turtle in my pond. In this shot they are preforming frog removal from the pool. Check out the tip of JR's finger. The box pond sits right beside the pool.

Love that white frog!

# 2 This one just has a little nub of a tail. Ready to go!

#3. This one is working on front arm development and the tail is getting smaller.

#4 still has some growing to do. I wonder how they get around so well with no arms. She is just a late bloomer I suppose! The daughters BF also brought me a larger frog which I will post on the frog ID forum as he is not a wee one. He is darling !

Beahive, They are so cute, I was hoping to watch some tadpoles change myself but I can't seem to find any. We did have them in both of the small ponds and they may still be there but I'm not seeing them. I'd blame the turtle even though it is pretty small but I don't see them in the other small pond either. There are goldfish and frogs in both ponds as well as the tads. Here are a couple new pics of the pool frogs and JR.

Holly.. those frogs are so neat! What kind are they?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

JR is very careful with the frogs. He usually finds them when he first gets in the pool and holds them for a minute or so and then lets them swim away not to be bothered again. Sometimes if we have a crowd like the other day he will carefully move them to the box pond but they don't stay there they always move back to the pool.

Tree frogs, I think.

I looked at this link about frogs in your state. Maybe a grey tree frog? Their coloring is so nice.

Thanks BeaHive, That is a great site. Yes that is what they are. We do have some other toads and frogs around. I don't have pics but we have the Wood Frog, too. I had 4 of these guys were living in the other small pond last year and were here this spring but seem to have gone missing since it warmed up. This was taken early this spring. You can see I still had the heater in the pond.

Thats a good size bull frog. I am sure he appreciated the nice warm water...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Here is the pic from last summer. You are right the biggest one was huge. I don't think my family believed me as I was the only one that saw the biggest one for a while. Then my son was here one day and it was out. LOL

I remember this post from last year. It is a great shot of the frog family. They are big.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Here is one of the new babies. I think she is an Oregon spotted frog and not a bull frog. She is the cutest little thing! Loves her new home. She still has a little tail stubbin! 99.9 % frog -.1 tadpole

Aw, Bea, don't you just love those froglets - too cute!

Yesterday's visitor:

Wuvie, He is so cute and bumpy.
Bea, Yours is a cutie, too.

I wanted to post my frogpole and found this thread that seemed just right. I noticed this guy last night when I was down for "a moment" by my water garden. I usually get a few tadpoles and put them in in the spring and almost never see hide nor hair(?) of them again.
But this guy seems to have made it, so far anyway. I know I have owls that come to the pond at night that could be eating my occasional frog. I get a frog once in a while but they never stay long, much to my disappointment.
There you have it.

Helen..Thanks for sharing your little guy/gal. She is adorable! Hope she makes it and you can enjoy its company!

I had an unexpected visitor in the house the other morning. I don't think I would call it a "wee one" he/she was pretty big. I opened the door to go outside and he just hopped right in. Took a couple of minutes to carefully chase him out from under a piece of furniture.

Helen your little one is much sweeter than my big bumpie toad. LOL
Back outside where he belongs.

Hope you at least made him some pancakes before he left and a glass of OJ!! LOL!

I like looking at all your frogs and tadpoles and the in between stage.
My GK are coming next week and I want to get some tadpoles . Would like them to be in different stages as I see here. It would be such a learning experience for them.

My DH found this big toad, while trimming the grass the other day.

Thats a pretty one Burn. Looks like he is getting plenty to eat also! Hope you find some tadpoles to show your GK.

I think all these amphibians are really great. I really wish I had more around my yard. The frogs are very transient in my pond. There is a little stream several lots down from mine and I suppose they eventually leave looking from company. ;-)

Hoping everyone had a great 4th!
