Now that some of the wildflowers are starting to bloom, how can I determine if the flower head is where the seeds are? Do I just take some and hope for the best? :) Also, do I have to wait until the flower is almost spent? I'll have to time it just right in that case, or I may not be able to find the plant among all the other "stuff" growing alongside the road! (needless to say, these don't grow out in front of my house LOL)
I don't even know the name of the flowers, but I've seen 2 different ones that I want to try to get seed from.
Once I get them, I'll post pictures and hope that someone recognizes them and can give them a name for me.
thanks for any help :)
Roadside Seed Collecting
I suggest you make labels and put them around the stems while they're still blooming. After blooming they will start to make seedpods, mostly on the same place where the blooms were. In that stadium you can put organza bags over the seedpods. This way you don't have to check regular whether the seeds are ripe. The seeds will fall into the bags.
