Three beetle pics I've had in my file - might be fun to ID.
1- Photographed in October, in Maryland suburban garden

I think it's a carrion beetle, maybe Nicrophorus orbicollis or N. carolinus, etc. :

Based on the key at Nicrophorus Central (http://tinyurl.com/nl63lg), this certainly appears to be Nicrophorus orbicollis. Fifty years ago, I frequently collected Nicrophorus spp. as well as other silphids on our North Dakota farm, using dead fish placed under boards as bait. I now see these beetles on rarely - one so far this year.
