It was found inside our staff lounge on the UC Irvine campus in Orange County. It did not look like it had hopper legs and it simply crawled in the cup when we caught it. A part of its abdomen was shedding off. The antennae was segmented and long. The wings were tucked underneath the brown and white spotted outer coverings on the back. It looked like it had a mouth for chewing.

This is a long-horned wood-boring beetle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae). Although the image is too blurry for me to attempt a specific identification, someone familiar with the fauna of California may recognize it.
