Had a Heart Attack (MI)

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks critter! Yes, she does love to cuddle and every chance she gets she will jump into my bed after her nightly walk and just nuzzle up to my neck as if giving me a giant hug. I must say I am getting very attached to her as I can feel her sincerity even though she may wake me from a sound sleep! Hope she never stops doing it.She just collapse when I give her a tummy rub. LOL

I know it has been a while, but I just stopped in to see how you are doing? I hope you are well, and enjoying the time off from gardening for the next several months as we head into the hotest part of the year for us floridians.

Jan

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank You Jan for remembering me? Because of my health I must remain indoors during the heat and as far as gardening is concerned I'm afraid that is totally out of my future but with my three remaining EBs I may buy some tomato plants and set them out in October when the weather cools down. I'm trying to get a power scooter but medicare won't give it to me if I use it outdoors? Most ridiculous ruling if you ask me. This was made into law in 2008. I have multiple illness's including Post Polio Syndrome which makes my legs extremely weak and all I'd have to do is fall and break a hip. My shoulders are athritic so I can not use any other device. What a predictament?
Enough of my mess I hope everyone is enjoying their harvest.

Good to hear back that you are taking it slow a easy. Sorry to hear about Medicare being the idiot they are at times.

I don't know if you have room and if you have a garage, but if so on both maybe you should give growing your tomatoes inside there under a grow light.

Jan

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks but I live in a mobile home -no garage!

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes they don't really offer garage option on them do they....LOL, I do wish the best for you in being able to get around outside, hopefully Medicare will change their policy.

Hi Everyone -- Just because I have not been posting does not mean that I have not been reading the posts and I am surprised to see not many EB'ers out there. Because of them I was still able to garden and as luck would have it discovered a new variety of currant. Carolyn informed me of it as I sent seeds to her and others and it will be called "Ted's Pink Currant". She will try to get into SSE as soon as the next edition comes out. The people may not know me but my name will live on forever. How proud I feel!

Carmel, IN(Zone 5b)

TPlant--that is awesome! I will be sure to look for it in the next SSE catalogue.

In spite of the massive drought we had here this summer, my tomatoes in EBs have been incredible. I'm getting so many tomatoes, I don't quite know whatq to do with all of them LOL. It's a good problem to have...I've been able to make sauce, freeze some, and share some with my co-workers.

Hope you are doing well....how is your new dog? Please keep us posted...I miss your posts here.

Congratulations on your namesake, Ted!

Way to go, Paw!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Hi Everyone! Yes I am quite humble to have the honor of the discovery of a new variety even though it is a currant. They were delicious and continued to grow and produce in high heat. I was very surprised. I hope Carolyn can develop more seed as I am useless at this time. "Ted's Pink Currant" sounds good to me and something to carry my name. What an honor?
As far as Xena is concerned she is a family dog and spends little time with me as I can not walk her. Hope to get A POWER SCOOTER IN THE FALL TO WALK HER IN THE COOLER DAYS AND NIGHTS.
MEANWHILE WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE EBers?

Carmel, IN(Zone 5b)

This EBer is still here....I grow exclusively in EBs and smart pots now. The tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cucumbers, squash and cabbage go in EB. The potatoes, leeks and carrots go in the smart pots. I even grew some garlic in EBs last year, and they did great.

I have had such good success with my tomatoes this year--its really been very rewarding.

Hope you will be approved for your motorized scooter, TPlant.

Take care,
Linda

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I have been approved for my scooter but medicare will not allow anyone to use theirs outdoors? That's our congress! I son't need it inside the home as I use an office chair on wheels to get around.

Carmel, IN(Zone 5b)

TPlant -- sending you Dmail.

Linda

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Tplant, hope your doing ok during the storm.

Hey on the scooter, tell them you need it for inside and don't tell them you would like to use it outside.

Paw,
You don't get a box that says "choose a file"? I think they changed the language.

Choose that box, and look for your pics in your files, then select it. I noticed it's taking longer to upload pics, but the option to upload up to FIVE pics at one post is very welcomed, no matter how long it takes!

Finally I can show you "Ted's Pink Currants". They grow through the heat of summer and are truly delicious. When they come to market I hope you try them as you will be very pleased.

Yum! I sure needed a tomato that could take the heat this summer. Congratulations on "your" new variety!

Wow ... congrats Tplant! How well deserved this is. You've taught a lot of us so much!

I'm another EB'er ... thanks to you. I'll never ever go back to growing in the ground.

I applaud EarthBox, also. They really last and stand up to their claims. I have 15 ... the first of which I purchased in 2006. It's still out in the garden!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

15? That is a lot of fun. I am so happy that I have helped others to enjoy gardening. Some with disabilities such as myself would not enjoy the rich rewards of gardening. You know you can grow magnificent bulbs, roses, carnations as a matter of fact most anything. People hesitat because they say they need more root space and that just isn't so. All the root need is nourishment so their is no need to explore.
Roses are magnificent in EBs and produce beautiful flowers. Oh! How I miss it but my heart will not stand any type of exertion so I enjoy watching others.

In case you guys don't read the tomato forum, I offered seeds for Ted's Pink Currant a couple of months ago. I still have a few left if anyone is interested in trying Ted's namesake tomato. Just send me a dmail.

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank you Nancy. Iknow they will like it. Somehow my cleaning lady misplaced the seeds and I promised Flip some seed. I will d-mail you his address. Will you be kind enough to send some?

Dearborn, MI

Will do. Nancy

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Nancy, TP - got the seeds! Thanks a lot. I'll let you all know how they do.

Sowed Ted's Tomato last night, a long with 3 other currants. I'm really looking foreword to them. I'll let you know how they do. Thanks!

Hello, glad to see that everyone is still checking in. Now that I live somewhere hot instead of cold, "Ted's Pink Currant" is sounding really good. I don't have to *imagine* what those ridiculous hot temperatures feel like: it's HOTTER than that in TX, although not as humid.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Carrie-Where did you move from?

Carmel, IN(Zone 5b)

I'll be starting Ted's Pink Current next week, for planting out in mid-May. I'm so happy to have some of these seeds, as Ted was a big influence on my getting started using Earthboxes. I hope I can get enough seed to save for next year and share with friends.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I moved from Boston.

Everyone says the D/FW area is "humid," but it is nothing like the East Coast!!!! Maybe some days here are more humid than other days here, but EVERY day in the east is more humid than ANY day out here. Yes, it's more humid than AZ or UT or NM here in TX, but it's not humid.

Exception: when it is so cold that there is no moisture in the air.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Lol, I think the same thing. I've been to the East Coast, Fenway and New York City. The only people that think Texas is hot and Humid are those that haven't been elsewhere during the summer. Lol The Midwest is REALLY HUMID too. I remember being in Ill. I couldn't even breath. Nebraska isn't much better.

Where I lived in So Cal it got a 105-107 for weeks, not much humidity tho. My plants still set fruit, the only thing I can figure is that it got cooler at night.

I remember standing on 5th Ave. It was in the low 80s, and I was sweating like a pig!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I experienced humidity in Arizona once when it was 119° outside. I couldn't breathe. Thought I would die...gasping....for......air.....

gasp.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anyway, this is Tplant's thread. It's good to move around so you get everything thrown away and change of scene.

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank You everyone for trying my seed. I'm really flattered. Wish I could get involved in planting again but no can do as my legs are very, very weak and will not allow me to walk on uneven ground such as dirt. Have three EBs left and I'm giveing them to Flip at his leisure. I'm saving up for a power scooter but everytime I get close something else pops up to hurt my pocketbook. My TV went out and shortly after followed my very old computer so another delay and I missed my season. I must buy a strong and powerful one as I will be running it across uneven ground. At that time I will be planting again. I'm always thinking about all of you!!!!

So glad to see you check in, Ted. I got some of "your" tomato seeds and I'm so excited to grow them. Just got seeds started last weekend and this weekend, although we are due for 6-9" of snow tonight. At least planting seeds gives me hope that spring is not TOO far away.
