MGs from O.P. seeds Need help getting the plant to grow!

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

I planted "Blue" open-pollinated morning glory seed in the spring, which grew nicely in their pots, and then I transplanted them into the garden once the threat of frost was gone. It has now been a couple weeks and they are still in a "holding" pattern. .....Is there anything I can do to them to help them take off??? I have Miracle Gro....do they like that? I'm hoping to harvest the seeds.......and I fear I'm running out of Summer!!

Please help! Thanks!! :)

glenda, mg"s don't like to be transplanted. hang in there, they will come around. i start mine in peat pots, then the roots don't get disturbed when i put them in the ground

Try some seaweed extract both as a soil feed and foliar - out of direct sun..Miracle grow might burn them when they take off it was me I would try baby bio or very dilute tomato feed 1/4 the recommended strength they will soon take off

That's the thing that has me stumped... I grew them in peat pots so the roots being disturbed should not be the issue. I've never had MG plants from the nursery (from hybrid seeds I'm sure) do this. ....Sure wish they'd get their act together. :- /

Glenda, how has your weather been? It's been real lousy here...rain and unusually cool for June, rarely even seeing the 70s let alone the normal 80s for this month. My MGs are only stumps compared to some of my other things and I think the rainy cool days with no sun have a lot to do with it.

We've had the same weather as you have. Cool for June, but the rain has really come in big over the last week. ....Maybe that's the problem - a cool June. .....When I planted them, I also put a few MG seeds in the ground next to them and today I found one has come through the dirt and has two leaves already. That little MG plant looks very healthy. :)

There was a thread a while back that discussed this very topic and folks posted some great advice and experience concerning transplanting seedlings/vines. It is worth reading this thread again: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/723526/
