ID guessing thread...

Aschaffenburg, Germany

This year I marked all my morning glory seedlings with metal strips and have had the name printed on them in permanent ink. As the permanent marker was made in China it does not surprise me in the least that nearly all of the writing has been washed off during recent the heavy rain...

My guess for this one is Dainagon...

i think you might be right there Martin....

An climbing MG with variegated leaves, bright pink with a white wide throat? Not sure of the cultivar, but it could be a cross possibly. Whatever it is, it's quite lovely!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i have one similair but the white in mine isnt as much but still has the white throat and varigated leaves

there are three different ones posted on my thread that look similar http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/886341/

szarvas, Hungary

Here is my Dainagon of last year ! large flower.

martin, your dainigon looks like mine did this winter...

Aschaffenburg, Germany

Danny, the fact that mine has much more white in the centre prompted me to check my records...

I found it's called Heian no Beni....I got the seeds from Canada...sorry for the confusion...

Could this be Ishidatane? The blue is an outstanding cobalt blue.

very nice flower Martin.. but i think Ishidatane has a white border to the petals!!...
can you save me a seed if you get any?

Colin, I am sure many people will want seeds from that one including myself, of course. But as fate wants it, I am gonna loose my MGs again for the second time in a year or so because I am going to return to Germany due to my parents' frail health. I trust that it will survive the journey, grow their and produce some seeds. It's the most extraordinary blue I have seen so far.

That is a cool Plant, Martin... have a safe trip to see your parents.. .. I am glad you get to go see them....Debra
And yes, that is one that will be sought after by many ( that blue flower)
and the flower above still looks like the one I grew out in the winter tagged Dainigon by Joseph..
Funny how some of them look all alike isn't it?

Martin - So sorry to hear about your parents and the upcoming move. That must be difficult. I know all too well. I hope everything works out.

I, too, am quite interested in the mystery blue split petals bloom/vine. Who knows? Maybe your MGs will survive and give you some seeds! I, too, would be very interested in 2-3 seeds should Mother Nature be in your favor. :-) You know you can count on me to provide you with some seeds for next year! :-)

This is flower two and three of the mystery MG, they seem quite normal...

Martin - I hope that moving, the trip and looking after your parents go well - I know these are difficult.

especially loved this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6767059

Martin - Here is a link to my photo of Ishidatane that I grew last year. http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/i/54866/ I am glad you brought this cultivar up. That would be a good one to sow in my new future grow-out. I didn't get any seeds from it last year and might have better luck this season. Though I don't know if I have anymore seeds left. Will have to check my seed stash... :-)

Ishidatane is definitely different and doesn't seem to have variegated leaves...

Aschaffenburg, Germany

Here it is again. Interestingly it produces both solid flowers and shredded flowers on the same vine.

Both flowers have reproductive organs, but so far I haven't seen any seeds forming...

I have no clue on the ID, but I sure do love it. you have some really great blooms going on there..

Aschaffenburg, Germany

The light blue MG has a light blue corolla, too. It's a most wonderful skyblue, such a thrilling colour.

Sazanami ripples, is the one I liked best this year. The blue has a turquois touch; it's a blizzard, but the dots appear only at the margin. It reminds me very much of a starry sky.

Look at the burgundy rebecca contrasted against the unidentified blue one.

This one has been baptized "touch of purple" and is the 2nd generation that came via Beckygardener who received them from a friend...It seems a vigorous plant which produces lots of seeds...

one of Emma's greys...I think to have grey and brown in the MG range of colour is most amazing, there isn't a lot of grey and brown flowers that I know within other species...

Martin.. this one here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6805371

Is Awsome! ;D

Aschaffenburg, Germany

I think it's an ukigumo, except that the colours are reversed, in other words is has blue where there should be white and vice a versa...I wouldn't know what else it should be. MGs are so interesting, aren't they, it never gets boring.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Martin - Your blooms look wonderful! I am glad that the "tough of purple" is a good bloomer for you! Your burgundy rebecca blooms are really nice! And Sazanami ripples is one that I keep trying to find and grow! I, too, love how the blooms look! :-)

Aschaffenburg, Germany

Becky, Onalee has the Sazanami ripples, I think it's 12 dollars. Touch of purple in lieu of tough of purple, typo. :=)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Oops! I goofed. Yes! It is "Touch of Purple"! Sorry for the typo!

Sazanami ripples is very nice! I've received seeds from a couple of DGers here, but for some reason I've not had any luck growing them. :-( Onalee's does have a very nice selection of JMGs. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow for such expenditures this year. This recession/depression has really pinched my pocketbook! Sure wish the economy would improve. :-(
