Any interest in a fall RU at our farm???

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hank and I are thinking we could host a gathering at our farm in the southwest corner of NH (about an hour 45 minutes north of downtown Hartford) on Saturday, September 19th if there is enough interest. The swamp maples are bright red by then and the foliage is just starting to turn color. What do you think, gang??? Any takers?

For you Allison, approx. :
Trip distance: 238 mi

Where are you from that point?
I might be able to do it.
Let me check to see if Debbilu would come too.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll have to check my calendar though

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yay! Thats what we like to hear!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

DH and I might plan a weekend trip around it. We'll have to see what works out.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, you guys, for the interest! I know that most of you that have replied so far are not close, so that is very touching to me that you would consider it!! I am going to put together a list of nice overnight accomodations in the Keene area. We are 20 minutes from Keene, NH if that helps anyone. There are motels in Keene and several nice B & Bs within 20 - 30 minutes of us. We are also a half hour from Greenfield, Mass and about 40 minutes from Brattleboro, VT, if that helps anyone. Because foliage season is awesome here, accomodations do fill up early, but since this is on the early end of the season, I thought it might be easier to get rooms this weekend rather than in October. if it comes together, I sure do hope you can all come!!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You just answered my d-mail.
Soon as you have info I'll make plans.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

If we rented a private coach from Buffalo to your place, it would take about 8 hours if we detoured from Bflo, out past Syracuse, down through to Albany, which would take us south enough to drive through Chicopee/Springfield to Worcester, MA, then directly up north to you from there.

We could pick up everyone (and everything!!) along the way! Anyone own a coach service??

The most direct route is 7 and 1/2 hours, so why not swing it around? ^_^

I will not know if I will be able to make it until we are much closer to that date, unfortunately.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

He He
Thats a long time together in a small conveyance.!!!
Sure we are civilized enough to handle it?

I would be checking for rooms now. The NASCAR Sylvania 300 is at New Hampshire Speedway Sept. 20th. I dont know about now, but in the years past that event has wiped out rooms/hotels in the small state of NH.

I dont need a room as I can basically drive to your house with my eyes closed!

www.nhms.com/schedule/

Check around with rooms etc or possibly jog a week.....

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Louise ......
You can bet your gardener's boots I'll be there. I ask to see if Anna, Miss "M",and our Miss Taelar want to come, too. Or would that be too many people?

Thank you Sherrie, for pointing me to this thread.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks for letting us know about the race, Sherrie. If I could keep the internet long enough, I'd be able to put together a list of possible accomodations in my area. If anyone wants to google it yourselves, you can try Greenfield, Mass, Bernardston, Mass, Keene, NH, Brattleboro, VT, and several B & Bs in Fitzwilliam, NH. Those are all very close to us (no more than a half hour to everywhere except Brattleboro, which is a few minutes longer.)

Willie - love the private coach idea! Sure do wish you could come!! I know it's a haul for you guys out that way.

More info coming if I can just get a clear sky for my internet connection!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

See if this link to Keene, NH helps out for a start.........
http://directory.nh.com/keene+nh/hotels+motels.zq.html

If it doesn't work, I'll type in some good options. I'd stay away from the Valley Green motel and the Rocky Brook motel. The ones I know of that are all ok are the following: Holiday Inn Express in Keene, Best Western Sovereign, Super 8 Motel, Keene Hampton Inn, EF Lane Hotel in downtown Keene, Colony House B & B in downtown Keene, Tartan Fox B & B on Rte 32 in Swanzy or Keene. This link should have the phone numbers for most of these, but probably not the B & Bs, which I am still gathering info for.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

The Bridges Inn at Whitcomb House is a B & B that is close to us. Hank knows someone who said it is very nice. Before you decide on a place, d-mail me for any of those that are on the links that I haven't mentioned and I'll tell you if I know anything about it.

There is also the Fox Inn motel in Bernardston, Mass just after you get off of I-91 heading for Northfield, Mass on the way to our town. The Fox Inn (across from the well-known Crumpin' Fox golf course which is a beautiful course) is about a half hour from our house. I don't have a phone number for it yet, but you can google it if necessary for now.

I'll google some to see whats cookin

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

JoAnn - that link in my post worked just now when I tried it. It has some phone numbers.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh man...I LOVE NH and would soooooo love to go. Maybe I can convince hubby for our anniversary...since we love NASCAR. I have to catch him in a good mood.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

It would be great if you could come, Jen!! Do the RU on Saturday and the race on Sunday! Good plan for a fun anniversary trip! If anyone who stayed in our area last fall for Candyce's RU knows of good places to recommend, please chime in!!!

Oh, and Candyce - your whole family is welcome....you know that!!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll be at the Holiday Inn.Just reserved.
I'm not taking any chances.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Here's another link to the Bed & Breakfasts in our area. I don't know much about most of them, but they are all close enough. I have personal knowledge that the Colony House is really nice, but it's hard to get rooms there at peak times.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Great, JoAnn! Several of the guests at my DSD's wedding stayed there and liked it just fine. That's only 20 minutes or so from us. So glad it wasn't a problem to find a place!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Itried 2 of the B&B 's couldnt get thru to talk to anyone.
Colony House looks nice.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hmmmmm, interesting! Did you get a voice mail recorder? That sounds odd. Maybe some are no longer in business.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Got recorders at both B&B's, message seemed to indicate they couldnt get to the phone.
I am chamging my reservation to "maybe" I simply dont know what posesed me to say I could come when I am probably not going to be able to drive that far.
I do things impulsivly ,probably because I reallllly wanted to come and meet everyone.
I have tried to cancell my reservation at Holiday Inn Express and the desk guy said call back at 8 and talk to a manager. They have a policy" no cancelations and no shows " get charged for the room anyway.
I said"This res. was made less than 24 hours ago and its for two months from now and there is a NASCAR race that weekend I cant believe you wont be able to fill the room" He said"call back"
DD will call back and first go to Corprate and deal with them. She doesnt take krapp from anyone(deals with the fed.gov everyday)
I'm waiting for results from her before I absolutly say "sorry" It really s - - ks to be old and have a drifty brain at times.

Atkinson, NH(Zone 5a)

love too...Will be nice to see you again.

I don't know much about butterflies, but know how wise you guys are...what is this butterfly...I think it is some kind of swallowtail

Your farm sounds so beautiful and serene. Could I come just to see the beauty of the fall changing of the leaves?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Louise it's a no go for us, hubby wants to go somewhere different for our anniversary.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

John and Liza your butterfly is the red spotted purple.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Louise could Norm and I pop in? You are not too far from us...

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Can't wait. Can't wait. Can't wait.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, JoAnn, I'm so bummed about your thinking you may not be able to come. Rats!! I do hope your daughter can give that place a piece of her mind. The nerve!! You need to get together with Willie and rent that coach!!

John and Liza....yippee! I'm so glad you'd like to come! It will be great to see you both again! Pretty butterfly shot - Red Spotted Purple? Gorgeous!

Marilyn - of COURSE you can can come on up from SteamyLand and lounge around with us! The fall colors are so worth the trip! We always wait until the leaves have fallen before we head south.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it, Jen!! I hope your anniversary trip to wherever is just spectacular though.

Barb - Definitely!! I would love to have you and Norm come!! That would be so nice!

Candyce - I agree.....me too!!

Oh, and Willie - you wouldn't go over to Worcester, MA from Springfield. You'd go straight up I-91 from Springfield and be here in an hour. BUT - there's a faster way from Albany - through Vermont. That's how we go to the Finger Lakes region to Canandaigua.
