Here is a pic of the Quail nest that I spoke of in the earlier thread. I didn't take a picture then for fear of freaking out the Quail. But yesterday I peeked and they had hatched and left for parts unknown. I haven't seen the parents or babies in my yard for several days (I haven't seen the babies at all, actually). When I first saw the eggs there were 6 of them, but this nest looks like there are more than 6 eggs (in pieces).

Looks like at least 8 eggs, tho' hard to tell eggzactly what are half-eggshells and what are whole eggshells

Nice one x!
It always amazes me that any of these babies can survive.
you're so right, ducbucln....the fire ants have really done a number on the Bobwhite population here in Arkansas
i haven't seen the parents or the chicks yet, but am hoping to soon. of course i won't have my camera handy. xuling
What was the temperature during the laying period. If it's hot, i.e. air temp over 100F, the eggs can begin to incubate as they are laid. The nest temp can be much higher than the ambient temp, depending on conditions. The quail will abandon the nest if this happens.
No one has proven any correlation between Fire Ants and quail pops. Some of the highest quail densities in TX also contain high densities of ants.
The Quail have all but disappeared from Mississippi.
were you asking me? reddirtretiree, about the temperature? if you were the air temp was mostly in the 70's and 80's with a few day in the 90's. but these eggs hatched.
