Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

my fear is that i owe them and without knowing what was sent i don't know who to go to.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I Bet it was John Boy....AKA....Jangirl....
Did I guess it?

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Check the postmark.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/997267/

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

no it wasn't joy as we decided to wait until fall. so am still looking but thanks for helping.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

your welcome when you find out let me know I would love some different ones.

Sandy

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Barb,
Everyone knows your a great trader...eventually who ever it is will chime in.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i don't know. arejay seems to know something but won't say. you know she has that newbie thing going ...a game where they get a scrambled up name and they have to unscramble it to win the plant of the week. and cannagirl has this thing going and people are sending other people boxes of plants. don't that beat all. if i got mixed up in one of those then no telling who sent it. york, sc. did it. know anybody from there?

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Barb,
I'm just wondering if someone just sent them to you because they knew you wanted them?
Maybe they just want to remain anonymous. It wouldn't surprise me, gardeners are like that. Just really nice and thoughtful people.

Well, it's an idea. Otherwise, you'd think someone would have told you it was them by now?

Joy

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

yes i know folks are like that. but i think arejay knows who sent it. and i can't stand that arejay knows and i don't. lol.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

But,,,,But ,,,I don't know ...Just a hunch!!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

which is better than what i have ain't it? who do you know in york, s.c.? lol.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Well, I'd say just enjoy them and try not to worry about it anymore. And if at a later time someone does contact you asking 'Where is my trade?' Point them to this post so they'll know you were trying to find them and then send them their trade. I think we all know you are an honest trader here.
I'm still thinking a generous garden angel sent these to you but just wants to remain anonymous. :-)

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person Barb. Enjoy!

Joy

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I have a solution! You can send them to me and I won't worry about who sent them because I'll know they came from YOU! All solved. Win Win! Brilliant!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

joy i know lots of folks nicer than me. a world of 'em. lol. i am afraid i am going to kill them as i don't know whether to water them or not. they are one of those "juicy" kinds of plants and too much water can just disintegrate them......at least i think because i was watering morning and night and only one of them is still green. boohoo.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Mittsy,
That was brilliant. But, I was thinking. I think I know where they came from so ...maybe Mama you should send them well it to me and I will dry it out a bit and thank the person that sent it to you? How about that one?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

beggars. hrrmpf!!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh My !! You are funny!! I am going to fall off my chair laughing. I am nit sure I can come and find you on a thread and announce this. I am getting on in years I could laugh till ...you know...

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

arejay are you gonna pee your pants? who says that that way? i never did. a person could pee "IN" their pants but "pee your pants"? who says that? nobody but hollywood as far as i know. but greater fate ain't on the beaten path. at least it didn't used to be until............(music to jaws is playing)......developers came.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I know there is a message in that!! I am going to go try to unscramble it!!
Would it be something like...It ain't over till it's over? Or more like.....

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Did I mention that I go to a Franciscan Church and that we are very good at begging. Beggers make the best traders, they aren't afraid to share what they have!

Is there wisdom in that? I hope so, Wisdom comes with age, and I'm feelin it, age not wisdom, have trouble remembering to take my vitamin B12 ( for the brain). Need to work on patience, too. Work in progress!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh B12 that is the best!! Patience..do we still have to do that at this age? I did that already.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

mamajack my alstromeria are done blooming and the leaves are dying like they always do. I have the green and red like you did not need. they still get water when everything else does and it will be around November or December before I start seeing leaves coming up again.

Hope that helps as far as watering.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well i just always kill dormant plants. what do you do with a dormant plant? the new ones i got have disappeared from the soil surface. i guess i won't know till Christmas if i killed them or not.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I kill dormant daylilies as during the heat one yr they kept going dormant and the 3rd time around no daylilies. But for the alstromeria mine grow in some morning sun until the trees lose their leaves. Then they are in most of the day sun. Just keep them wanted with all your other plants and in the fall they will return. I am not sure you could kill them unless you never water.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Barb,

Watering twice a day shouldn't kill ANYTHING in this Texas heat!!!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well i call this alstroemeria a "wet" plant. they seem to be all water. you know what i'm saying? so they can get all squishy sorta when shipped. and everytime i get one of these in the mail they seem to be in the same dormant state. i truly hope i didn't kill it but it is gone from the surface for now. won't know till fall or next spring.

and you know i kill those newer coneflowers every year by overwatering. does anyone else find them to be "weak" plants? that's why i try my best not to get them until at least aug.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I do know what you mean about them disappearing. I had that happen when I got some tubers in the mail that were very dry and we soaked them a little and planted them never ro see them again until they came up this spring, and are blooming now. I think they stayed dormant a whole year. I really do want any I can find in the princess series especially!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

I don't need any "princess" plants, as in princess in the pea, prince in the pea, too fussy for themselves, I threaten them w/ being beheaded and tossed into the compost pile....noooooooooooo time for prima donna plants......and I have LOTS of plants..........

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

My Alstroemeria's do not like wet feet...the tubers will rot if their kept too wet
Very rarely do I water mine..and if they need it they tell me by wilting alittle
Then they bounce right back...
To push the zone mine are planted 8+ inches in the ground and layered with hay/soil/hay/soil
to help protect them from our cold winters...i've had them for over 10 years now..
Planting them deep might help with the heat too...
You can check the tubers if they've gone dormant..just dig near them and try and feel the tubers if their still hard their okay..
if their mushy or gone then they've probably died...
Usually dormant tubers don't need much water..

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i know they don't but what the heck do you do with 'em? lol. stick 'em in the dirt and after watering them in forget them? i just got some dormant what are they called?.....iris of some kind....spuria. that's it. what do i do with them? water them? or forget them and could i have just kept them on my shelf till fall when i hope that they grow? i hate dormant plants. they make me so mad. they are trying to be dead but they're not. who does that?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

opossums?? rotflol just had to say that. lol

Put them in a pot so you can brush the dirt back in every once in a while and look at the roots.

Just a thought.

edited to finish my sentence. Duh!!
