Transplanting Brugmansia HELP!

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

I need help! I am trying to move several Brugmansia's because of work being around the foundation of my home. I thought I had at least a week to move it, now they are saying I have two days! So I am pulling stems from the root ball and getting a few hairs of roots and replanting them. The root ball on one of them weighs about 150-200 pounds no matter how close I try to dig it to the base. Have any of you had good experiences with getting these types of rootings to grow? I've moved 10 bushes and the last two will just have to be trampled or cut to the ground. I thought I couldn't take cuttings until October. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS one group I have to move because the animals are getting too close to them and it could poison them.

We can root brugmansia at anytime during the year. On transplanting them, it's stressful for the plants to do it this time of year when the weather is getting hot if not hotter. I'd recommend providing temporary shade to the transplants, and water them them copiciously, misting the plant too to aid hydration. Lots of works to keep them from transplanting shocks, but we can do it. Best of luck.

I've a few that got knocked off by storm past weekend. I'm rooting those in bucket of water keeping in the shade (indirect sunlight), shortly 2 days, and the white nubs already formed on the broken branch).

Thanks Lily,
I have standing water in the yard so they have plenty of water. I didn't think about the heat bothering them, I will put them in a bucket in the garage. That will make them happy. I really shouldn't worry about it I have more Brugmansia then I know what to do with, I just hate to see them go to waste.

Good luck with yours! Lots of rain this season! Maybe we will see some height on our bushes. Mine has gotten to about 7 ft tall but I've heard they can go a lot higher!

Happy gardening!
