Sorry I don't have a photo. I was in the yard yesterday afternoon when this bee came slowly flying around for a few minutes. I thought it was a bumblebee - about the same size, but it was white and black, not yellow and black. Distinctly white, not "dirty" white, and it was fuzzy - definitely not a wasp. The tip of its tail was white.
I couldn't find anything on Google, and I was wondering if there's such a thing as an albino bumblebee?

Sounds like a bald faced hornet but without a picture this is only a guess.
After looking at Google photos of the bald-faced hornet, I know it wasn't that. Looked more like traditional bumblebee striping.
There are indeed bumble bees (Bombus spp.) that have white instead of yellow or orange tails - see http://tinyurl.com/lfxu53 for an example.

I also have these bees (black/white) inside my stone wall . I looked in the link above and a few other sights. the picture of the * Bombus* is similar-but not exactly. The bees that I have ...are white striped, and there is NO yellow whatsoever. Does anyone know what type this is.
meaelaine - we're "neighbors", so it must be the same bee, whatever it is!
