Desert Bird of Paradise, Yellow Bird of Paradise

Llano, TX

I need to find someone who is Very knowledgeable on the Desert Bird of Paradise, Yellow Bird of Paradise in Texas.
We are in the hill country, granite gravel type 'soil' mostly. My 3 Bird of Paradise have grown to about 4 - 5 ft. tall and weathered 2 winters alright. Problem is they bloom in Early Spring very nicely and now (mid-June) have quit blooming and have many seed pods, plus the leaves look very pale. They get full sun from about 10 am to about 5 pm and then partial. I have fed them (& sprayed) fish emulsion. Also feed them a Hibiscus food that is 10-4-12. Try to give a good soaking at least once a week.
Help?

I would recommend posting in the beginner gardening forum instead--this forum is for questions about using the Plant Files database, but for questions about how to grow plants the beginner gardening forum is a better place and more people will see your question. Here's a link to it if you're not familiar with it http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/b_gardentalk/all/

Assuming this is the plant you're talking about http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2120/ they don't need a ton of water or fertilizer, so if they're looking unhappy I'd check on those two things. I have never fertilized mine and they do great, so at the very least you might lay off the hibiscus food. Fish emulsion shouldn't hurt anything though. And doublecheck that they need that good soaking once a week--if they've been in the ground a few years now it could be they don't need that much, they're very drought tolerant.
