CLOSED: ID. beetle-like insect on rose and St. John's Wort in Oregon

Cheshire, OR(Zone 8b)

We live in the Willamette Valley ( Lane County) coast range foothills. We see damage to our roses and St. John's Wort. We have NO picture of what looks like a beetle. The closest description is like a large Lady Bug with a uniform glossy bronze color. The size is about 1/4 inch with an oval shape. It is eating our rose leaves and leaves the skeleton much like the Japanese Beetle. It also eats the WILD St. John's Wort.

Your help would be appreciated. If you have a URL you could point us to that shows an image, so much the better.

Thank you.

One possibility is Chrysolina quadrigemina, an imported beetle in the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles) that feeds voraciously on St. John's wort - see http://tinyurl.com/m4thes for images and details.
