The Birds and the Bees
My Mom is a flower and my Pops a Bumblebee, who
shared with Mom his pollen and together they made
ME!
I was happy in my pod where I was sheltered day
and night. Soft breezes rocked my cradle pod as
my mother held me tight.
But someone plucked me from the pod, where I in
slumber lay, and placed me in a packet where I
stayed day after day.
Then one day the pack was opened and I was
pressed into a pot, where I was kept slightly
moist, and warm but never hot.
My shell began to soften and my skin began to
crack, as I lay there helpless, covered with soil
that was black!
One day I was awakened by a sound that I heard
and then suddenly I was swallowed whole by a
silly bird!
The bird flew me around for hours and then
dropped me with a THUD! I was very happy that I
landed in some mud.
That is where it happened that I became a sprout
and pushed up toward the light so I could take a
look about.
I sent roots into the soil and pushed my head up
high until I was tall enough that I could see the
sky.
I settled in quite nicely and merrily I grew,
happy in the sunlight and caressed by morning
dew.
The soil was nutritious and I grew by leaps and
bounds so it wasn't very long before I was the
biggest plant around.
Then one day there was a shadow cast upon my
peaceful home and I felt myself be yanked out of
the garden loam.
STOP! I cried in agony. Please don't take me
away. But I felt my roots snap as everything
turned gray.
The thing that cast the shadow tossed me upon a
heap where I started wilting and fell into a
fitful sleep.
I was awakened by a patter of gently falling
rain which gave me the strength to right myself
again.
And, so I struggled to grow there on the heap,
until at last I blossomed with colors bright and
deep.
When the Shadow came again I stopped it in it's
track, surprised by my flowers, it said. "I need
to put you back!"
The shadow called me a "volunteer" and a
"wonderful surprise" as it placed me back into
the garden where I quickly increased in size.
Now, you know the story of how it came to be,
that My Mother was a Flower and my Father was a
Bee!

P.S. I am growing stronger everyday in the cyber mud of Dave's Garden where I draw nutrients from the friendships that nurture me.

This is who I am.. Who are you?
What a tale! Thanks for sharing it.

Yes, it put a smile on my face. What a lovely poem. Norma
Hats off to whoever composed that, Zany. 1-derdful, 1-derful. Thanks for sharing, I'll've a print right now.
Zany to the rescue - thanks ((((((hugs)))))
aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh Thanks Zandy i needed that ,,,,,,,,,,,,
luv nana
Zanymuse....did you write that? Wouldn't surprise me, I just love it and it speaks the heart of many of us here!
"eyes"
Thanks all! Just figured I would reintroduce myself! Glad ya enjoyed my little ditty. :)
Zany, thank you! Lighthearted but yet has a very good message for us - sometimes we are so quick to judge, we don't give a plant (or a person) the chance to bloom :)
By the way, I found "volunteer" water canna (thalia) buried and growing happily in my compost pile, compliments of my neighbor who yanked them up. It's definitely the nicest thing she's ever given me, and she didn't mean to....
Yes, I plead guilty. I wrote it. LOL And yes there are hidden meanings in it. But rather than spell it out I will let each draw from it what they will!

Then all I can say is you have a wonderful talent, like our Kathleen who also writes the most incredible poetry.
