On 6-11-2009 I went up to stand up plants that had blown over after a severe storm came through. I found that someone had stolen about 50 of my Magnolia virginiana var. australis ‘Sweet Thing’ in 3gal. containers. I would appreciate if anyone can help me catch the Thieves that stole these plants. The 'Sweet Thing' Magnolias would have been stolen late on 6-10-09 or during the day on 6-11-09. I would give a reward of plant material for the apprehension of these Thieves. My nursery is in Morrison Tennessee.

Theft in Tennessee, Please Help
50!! Those thieves must not have had any fear about spending time on your property. They just get more and more bold.
Check Craigs list and ebay for the sale of magnolias in your area -- maybe the sneaks will be dumb enough to advertise. Also, maybe some shopkeepers in your area will post a sign in their storefront with the info and reward. You never can tell -- folks shopping in nurseries and garden shops or other local businesses may have some info. Good Luck Otis. Don't forget to include the loss on your taxes next year if you don't recover. I know it must make you so mad.
Oh I am so sorry Otis. That's horrible. Thieves are getting more and more bold. I hope you find the culprits and do remember, criminals are stupid. I'd watch garage sales and plants sales also, if you have time to do so.
No one is gonna plant that lot in their garden so they must be for sale, keep an eye peeled and yer ear to the ground!
Hope you catch them How annoying! so sorry. And yep criminals are stupid.

The magnolias that were stolen were a cultivar that I have patented. Patent # pp17,814 I think that someone stole them for propagation wood. This magnolia is a dwarf evergreen Sweetbay. In my area there a lot of nurseries 95% of them are very honest people. About 5 or 6 years ago someone stole 30 Red Dragon Japanese maples that I had been growing 15 years. I now have my 8,000 Bloodgood Japanese maple on video.

The cultivar sounds wonderful! Us gardeners owe a great deal to you guys putting in the hard work and creating new cultivars of our favorites! All I can say is thank you Otis. Remember even stolen they are still yours.
