Weeds

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

We don't seem to have a forum dedicated to weed control, please correct me if I am wrong. I am aware that weed control depends on the individual gardener, organic or not, for those of us that are not too organic I have found something that saves money for spot weeding
and is very effective, interested just tell me where to post it.

Well here goes, I'm sure you are all aware that pro rata gel spot weed killers are far more expensive than your average
mix with water products. Makes 2 gallons! Take your favourite brand of regular herbicide, they usually mix with about 60% water maybe a little less for the real stubborn weeds. Measure out the water first and mix 8 table spoonfuls of corn starch. stir until well dispersed, place on the stove and bring to the boil, presto thick water! Allow the mix to cool, pour the thickened
water into a suitable container and mix with with the weed killer, or scale the mix up or down for more or less. I prefer to use a systemic type. Works for me! Note you can adjust the amount of corn starch to alter the viscosity as desired.

Another useful home made control for aphids.
Soak a few cigarettes in a pint or so of water overnight, filter out the tobacco and spray the liquid on the aphids!

Hope some of you find this useful.

Is there another name for this, (pro rata gel )

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

Sorry mcrochet. should have read pro-rata, (meaning proportionately, one compared to the other. Not the name of a proprietary brand.

That sounds easy to make and useful, too. Thanks, Pajonica.
