What kind of spider is this?

I found one similar to this guy outside, and this one was crawling on up my wall. My puppy almost ate him! Any idea what kind of spider it is?

This spider is in the family Gnaphosidae (stealthy ground spiders); appearing to be in the genus Sergiolus - see http://tinyurl.com/krswk3 for an example. They are harmless to humans (and puppies).
