Beginner Gardening: Growing plants Cardboard cartons , 1 by burraganesh

Hi friends please tell me if this arrangement will work for growing plants.This cardboard carton is about 30"X25"x20" and I have covered it with thick polythene (see the white cover in pic) for preventing the cardboard from soaking which can damage the cardboard.I want to fill it with a mix of sand (2 parts)+Vermicompost(1 part)+Coco peat(2 parts) and I want to grow small plants like Lavender or Basil which require less water.

Please add any of your suggestions as to which plants I can grow and if at all this arrangement works.
