I tried a peanutbutter, oatmeal and cornmeal mix, and just spread it on the fence posts. The starlings devoured it and wanted more. Plus, the treat kept them out of the feeders the sparrows eat at.

Today, I put out a suet cake. Nothing fancy. Just inexpensive grocery store stuff. The starlings like that too ! Here is a picture of one.
