When the shad are running, which is now, the osprey and the great blue heron are very active. It is not uncommon to see as many as 20 GBH there at the same time. When the osprey dive I use the rapid fire setting and try to get them all the way down -- which is hard because I am using auto focus and there are trees on the opposite side of the river and the camera has a hard time holding focus on the bird against a background like that. I really try to catch the osprey as it extends its talons just before splash down. |
