We have a small farm where we raise natural lamb and beef for folk's dinner table, provide sheep for sheepdog trials, and train dogs and owners how to herd those cute critters. We also dabbled in a fair sized garden last year for marketing, with heirlooms. Don't know if I will have time this year for the big garden, might just scale it down for us.
When you have 40 to 60 lambs, it is difficult to develop much attachment even though they are very cute. And I am much more aware of the cute factor than I probably should be.
Here is my son holding a minature lamb that we saved last year. It weighed less than 2 pounds when it was born and although it was healthy, it couldn't even reach momma's milk. Most producers would have let it die, I brought it in and kept it in the house. Took it with me everywhere, Ft. Worth Stock Show, HLSR, etc. Ultimately sold her to a family who wanted a pet since I couldn't do anything with her. She only weighed about 10 # when she left, her twin sister weighed about 55# at the same time.
