Here is a photo of my Frogfruit (some given to me by lovely Josephine). It's growing along the west-facing foundation, and seems to thrive on harsh sun, clay soil, and little attention. It's growing directly under the eaves. It's hard to see in the photo, but the plant has lots of pretty little white flowers. It will take some foot traffic with no trouble. And with your stepping stones, it would be easy to control it with a weed whacker.
