I think it comes from New Guinea or Malaysia. This is one cane/shrub you can actually start a new plant from a piece of leaf cutting. Bill Claybaugh had several started from leaf when Houston had the convention last year. (Yeah, I bought another one and lost it so now I have another one that I got in FL).
