If you'll go to the thread "Cottage garden or not?" down below, you will see a pic of a picket fence submitted by Highmtn which shows how they dealt with a slight slope. I think they did a beautiful job. I don't know whether it's vinyl or wood. Hard to tell but it really looks nice.

I went the homemade wood route since I really couldn't afford the vinyl. I haven't painted it yet but plan to paint it white. I told the guy who built it for me that I didn't care if it wasn't perfect because the imperfection was what made it look primitive and "cottagey." One side of my house is fairly level but the other side is a hefty slope. Here's what the sloped side looks like.
