I found the pond kit on clearance at the hardware store, and the decking for the pond ledge and bench was purchased. Everything else used in the pond was recycled. The lumber was scrap, stones were from the stone pile on our property, and the gravel from the greenhouse floor. The hens'n'chicks were just pulled from the garden and planted in the fountain. A length of old garden hose was threaded up through the pots for the fountain. The rubber liner left over from the pond lines the fountain. A plastic pop bottle became the fountain spillway. The boards used to skirt the fountain and bench were the wainscoting from our kitchen, and there was just enough trim to make the top edge. The ceramic frog used to sit on the back deck. The overall length of the pond/bench/fountain is 10 feet long by 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. The bench/fountain measures 2 feet by 4 feet. The ledge sits about 8 inches tall and is sturdy enough to sit on. |
