We used to have a barrel under the sink but it drew fruit flies, especially in summer. Jack found a good compost pail that opens by itself and we have it in the garage. It took the banana skins, grapefruit rinds, etc. all winter long without a problem and by spring it was almost liquid so it went directly into the next compost pile he turned.

One of those empty plastic coffee cans would be ideal for keeping the cooled coffee grounds in for a few days at a time until you can spread or dump them around your plants.

All of our grounds go a few steps from the kitchen to the hosta garden and Sagae (extreme right in this photo) benefits the most all winter long! No weeds either.
