When the power use to go out before we had a generator I would cook on the wood stove and heat water on it.

I sure do love wood heat. So nice n' warm n' cozy. Our wood burner sits in the basement directly under an open register in the livingroom floor. It doesn't go through our duct work...just drifts up through the register and up the back steps from the basement. Our bedrooms are a bit cool when its really cold but we like to sleep in a cool room anyway.

Theres been kind of a renaissance with wood burning with the high cost of fuel these days. We've been burning wood for 30 years. Kinda wondering what we will do when we go to Mexico this winter for a week in January since our gas furnuce is no longer hooked up to the chimney and too old and dust filled I suppose to run anyway. Plus all we have is a little 120 gal. LP tank.
