Bird Watching: Eastern Bluebirds hatched!, 1 by mygardens

We have three bluebird boxes and have had bluebirds hatch in the past, but in the last few years we have seen bluebirds, but they have not nested in our boxes. This year we painted our barn and had to remove all of the birdhouses that we had lining the sides of the barn. This year we had two bluebird boxes with eggs. For some reason the eggs were abandoned in the first box, but the eggs in the second box hatched last week. I have attached photos taken in the first week. Subsequently we have learned that house sparrows are very aggressive and keep the bluebirds away. Perhaps removing the birdhouses from the barn cut down on the population of house sparrows? At any rate, we are delighted with our new brood.
