Since my daughter and sister were both with me I didn't have much time to browse and they were both making fun of me as I walked along looking at the plants. I gasped with excitement snatching this plant exclaiming OMG it's an escargot.......... they thought I had been seized by something. I guess my gasp was pretty loud. My sister asked me if I had wet myself in my excitement. Now I don't have any begonias and I've never grown one so I don't know one from another. I had admired the pics of the escargot on this forum so had been keeping my eyes open for one when I went to garden centers etc. Because I am in a rural area my actual shopping for plants in person is usually limited to if I'm out of town or online. There were several of these (3 I think) and I took what I thought was the healthiest looking. They had been crammed onto a shelf of plants and the leaves looked a little abused. Looking at the plant and trying to verify it's identity online has made me wonder is this an escargot or just another curled leaf (snail look) variety......??? The largest leaf has a couple cracks in it...more than likely from being shoved around on the shelf at the store. I'm thinking the mature leaves look to pale/silverish white and smooth to be an escargot. Thankyou for any and all opinions.... ~Julie =0) |
