I gave to cut the ends off every year, as they grow tall and lanky in the house every winter. I have had this plant forever! Like--25 some years. Each spring I cut off the tops and root them, starting new pots. Throw away the canes in between, and let Mama regrow. About every 3 years, I uproot it, throw away the old, woody roots, and repot it in fresh soil. That's what i did last year and that is why it grew back so well. I DO lose the flowering, though cutting it back each year. Oh, it gets a few, but not all that much.
