Most people produce about 2 to 10 hybrids a year I could produce much more than this and most if not all would be unique or very well worth growing. But hitting this market were it takes a few years for a plant to even get known. A lot of good plants have slipped in the cracks of obscurity and I hope my plants do not. I try to release a few of the best I got for each year. Their is no Canna Society I am sad to say and releasing hybrids is a bit tough you have to do it all market them sell them and hope they make it with the all time best forms. Which most do not. Most people only grow a hand full of cannas and they usually pic the most colorful though it is hard to call any canna ugly some are just superior with colored leaves bigger flowers and more flowers. Out of all my breeding of cannas I would say I have maybe 2 or 3 that will probably stay around for a long time many of these others look good but are more for hobbyist not mass market I think. I would like to be proven wrong but most people care less about the foliage and want outrageous flowers. Most of mine have amazing foliage but most lack in the huge flower department. |
