I told Shirley I didn't have any room for lots of seedlings, so turned down her offer of seed, but if this is an example of what you get from her seed... Here's another moonlit spot begging for a brug. I'm posting 3 woodcuts of it done over a period of 124 years of the same place: Shinobazu Pond in the Ueno suburb of Tokyo (once known as Edo). It was destroyed in WWII, and its spirit doesn't live on as well in post-war reconstruction as it does in Paul Binnie's woodcut late in the 20th century. Am including the first one for context. Can’t you imagine a brug blooming in all its nightly splendor, somewhere in the moonlit gardens of Shinobazu Pond as portrayed in these woodcuts? 1) Hiroshige I _ Shinobazu Pond _ 1843 Link: http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/hiroshige_ando.html Scroll down to Ando Hiroshige in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art DataBase and click on that - this woodcut will be on page 5 - then click on thumbnail and then on “enlarge” |
